First Grad Paper

For Wednesday, I have to write a 7-page paper comparing three peer-reviewed journal articles. Just so you can see how utterly fun this is, here are the titles of the articles I chose:
  1. Assessing Public Participation in U.S. Cities
  2. The Question of Participation: Toward Authentic Public Participation in Public Administration
  3. Public Deliberation in an Age of Direct Citizen Participation
My undergraduate degree is in American Studies. It really was fun. I wrote papers on subjects such as the evolution of Nancy Drew. My senior seminar was "The Automobile in American Culture."

As I slooowly work on this paper today, I'm wondering why I thought a professional degree was a good idea. It's not amusing. The non-profit studies part of the degree will be much more interesting I think. But in the meantime I have to slog through classes in public policy, financial management and administrative law.

This is going to be a long three years.

  1. I did a Master's Degree in American Studies, and take heart. Nothing at the graduate level is as fun as it was at the undergradate level. If I read the titles of some of my papers in American Studies to you you'd cry of the boredom, let alone the content of those tomes.
