Sometimes You Get More Than What You Pay For

Last month, while browsing at Powell's City of Books, I was offered a free haircut.

This reminds me somewhat of a shopping trip with the Artist, way back when we were first married. We went to the Plaza in Kansas City and he encouraged me to buy something nice for myself--as he always does. The nice thing he recommended was a hairbrush, with a smooth wooden handle and gentle wooden bristles. It felt nice in my hand, so much better than the plastic thing I had at home. How great is it that my new husband thinks I deserve beautiful things!? Of course, the moment we left the store he told me to use it--apparently my hair was a mess.

So was this blonde girl with the pretty smile just telling me that I needed a new 'do, or was it my lucky day? Perhaps a bit of both!

Piper works at Urbaca Salon in the Pearl, in the same building as several art galleries (of course) and next door to the Pearl Bakery. (mmm...pastry...) She needed a hair model in order to practice a specific haircut.

Although it took three (!) hours, the haircut looks great and there were no hidden charges.
