Two months ago, I mentioned the trend of adults reliving childhood pleasures. Last night on the Colberrrr Reporrr I found out that someone has not just named the trend but written a book about it.
Mr. Noxon (which sounds like a Fox in Socks name!) calls these people "rejuveniles"--a very clever name. In fact, without such a good name, the whole trend is just a strange anomaly of kickball and marching bands.
I'd like to write a book about women who have babies when their older children are teens. My friend Fiona, Jemima Puddleduck's mom, was 42 when J was born and her other daughters were 12 and 14. This can't be uncommon, but all the literature I find about "older" moms is about first time moms. I sort of call this idea the "Restarted Family" but a catchier name would help the whole thing move forward.
What are the pleasures of restarting a family? Free, trustworthy babysitting? A relaxed attitude?
What are the challenges? Diapers and prom dresses? Balancing gymboree and high school football practice?
Maybe Ariel Gore, with her huge network of formerly-teen mothers, knows some who have restarted their families now that they're in their 30s. I might have to ask.
