UU

For the first time in my life, I'm regularly attending a church. I've always been an agnostic with leanings towards the magic and mystery of paganism. But when I moved to Vancouver, I felt like I needed a way to meet people. And I wanted to give The Artist a little space on the weekend to himself. (This didn't exactly work since The Magician refuses to attend the fellowship.)

I chose Unitarian Universalism because my former boss was a member of the congregation, but I'm happy with the selection. I can go every week and still be a Goddess-leaning agnostic. I don't have to be saved. I certainly don't have to accept Jesus into my heart.

Although I'm still not officially a member of the church, I did pledge to give a financial contribution each month and I serve on the Stewardship Committee, when my travel schedule allows. On Monday, I volunteered to be the Publications/Publicity chair of our annual auction. I'm still looking for friends, but my UU acquaintances are kind and accepting.

There are Sundays that I just don't want to go to church. I feel like I'm not home very much lately. Since the end of January, I've been to San Francisco, Idaho Falls, Seattle, Albuquerque, Aneheim and Denver. My house, one year after moving, is still hip deep in boxes in some places. But The Star, social butterfly that she is, has made friends and is committed to attending each week. So I go and I'm glad I do, because the music is uplifting, the message is liberal, the coffee is free-trade.

The Artist and his son have begun to work on projects on Sunday mornings. Last week they washed the dogs and mowed the lawn. This week, they replaced the broken frame on the back door. Giving the boys a chance to hang together is a good thing, particularly if they don't just spend the morning on the Playstation.
